Prof. Greven discussed sensitivity as part of Radboud Reflects

Prof. Corina Greven's recent talk for Radboud Reflects is now available on YouTube.

In this lecture—together with Prof Judith Homberg—she explores the science of high sensitivity: what it is (and isn’t), how it relates to the brain, and how it connects to mental health and society.

Part of DESTINIES—an innovative European Doctoral Network

At the Sensitivity Lab, we’re excited to be part of DESTINIES—an innovative European Doctoral Network dedicated to understanding the highly sensitive brain.

Led by Prof. Judith Homberg, this initiative brings together a fantastic European consortium and will train a new generation of scientists to help uncover the neural mechanisms of sensitivity.

This is an important step toward advancing fundamental science and improving understanding of how sensitivity develops and functions in the brain.

Looking forward to contributing to this collaboration in Nijmegen.

Publication Alert: New way to measure sensitivity

A new version of the Highly Sensitive Person Scale has just been published in Personality and Individual Differences.

In this paper, we introduce and validate the revised Highly Sensitive Person Scale (HSP-R) in a UK/US sample of 1,000 adults. The HSP-R captures six dimensions of sensory processing sensitivity, offering a more nuanced assessment.

New project funded

Tessel Galesloot has received an ENW-XS grant from NWO to investigate genetic determinants of sensory processing sensitivity. She will use data from the UK Biobank, the Twins Early Development Study and the Healthy Brain Study. The project will start in December 2026 and will run for a year. Results will be shared as soon as possible!

The 2026 International Conference on Sensitivity Research is Italy, June 19

The 4th edition of the International Conference on Sensitivity Research will take place on June 19th, 2026, at the University of Pavia, Italy (near Milan) in a hybrid format.

Posters, talks and panels will be held on the latest research on sensitivity and related topics. There is also a practitioner workshop with an applied focus on Saturday, June 20th, 2026 (depending on interest).

Currently, preregistration is open to express interest in participating.

New publication on overstimulation in everyday life

Proud to share the latest research article by post-doc Sofie Weyn. The article studies links between sensory processing sensitivity and overstimulation in daily life using ecological momentary assessment. https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-025-31629-3

New publication, brings the feild together and proposes a new theory

Big news: our new review, "Sensory Processing Sensitivity: theory, evidence, and directions", has just been published.
The paper provides an up-to-date overview of the current state of research and highlights key outstanding questions. We also introduce a novel predictive-processing account of high sensitivity that helps explain how different SPS characteristics emerge and relate to one another.

Should science be more like a kitchen?

To foster teamwork, we became chefs for an evening at a cooking workshop. Together, we prepared a 4-course meal, with each small team responsible for one dish.

We left the office and tried to write a paper in a day

At our annual joint lab retreat, our goal this year was to write a paper in a day and prepare a science communication video as a team-building activity to make science more fun, faster, and higher-quality. We didn't finish the paper, but we discovered a new way of working and are close to submitting it for peer review.

Publication alert

Our new paper on the relations between sensory processing sensitivity and ADHD traits has just been published, led by first author PhD student Lessa Schippers.

One of the unexpected findings is a small link (r=0.22) between sensory processing sensitivity and hyperfocus — the intense, sustained attention that can occur when someone is deeply engaged in a task. We found this even after correcting for ADHD traits.
