Tessel Galesloot
Genetic Epidemiologist
Dr. Tessel Galesloot is a genetic epidemiologist working in the IQ Healthcare Science department at Radboud University Medical Center. She graduated in 2010 in Biomedical Sciences with majors in Epidemiology and Pathobiology (Radboud University Nijmegen, cum laude). In 2015, she obtained her PhD, focusing on the genetic epidemiology of hepcidin (a peptide hormone involved in systemic iron homeostasis) and its role in atherosclerosis. Since 2018, she has been employed as a staff scientist in genetic epidemiology, specializing in methodology and hands‑on expertise in statistical genetic epidemiological analyses. In this role, she collaborates with researchers studying a wide range of traits and diseases, including urological tumors (bladder and prostate cancer), thyroid hormone regulation, and age‑related macular degeneration. In addition to her research activities, Dr. Galesloot is actively involved in teaching in the Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes in Biomedical Sciences and Medicine at Radboud University. Recently, Dr. Galesloot obtained an ENW‑XS grant from NWO to investigate genetic determinants of the personality trait Sensory Processing Sensitivity (SPS). She will work part‑time on this project starting in December 2026.
